and your obvious caring and obvious experience with trauma.

For what it's worth, in my 70+ years I don't feel like I've experienced trauma at the level that I know many people have. Divorces, family and friends deaths, some financial woes. But I chalk these up to the normal cycle of life. I do know many people in my daily volunteering who have had very rough lives and seemingly dark futures. But they also show (or try to show) a sense of hopefulness.
