(3,234 posts)Schools have NO business being open and it was a huge mistake to do so.
The results will be absolutely devastating & we're just now beginning to see the early results of opening schools up during a deadly pandemic that is Covid.
And keep in mind, the argument of "we have vaccines now!" is NOT the argument you think it is when many people are immunocompromised and can't be vaccinated. Also, how many people are going to have forever life altering symptoms that are disabling due to "Long Haul Covid"?
It's not only about death.
And remember, 10s of millions in this country don't even have healthcare should they get sick and free Covid test kits are no longer a thing. How are poor & working class people who are struggling to even keep the lights on & pay rent going to afford that in an age of historically low wages?
Sorry folks but I'm pissed. We're not doing enough and the economy is taking a front seat to all of us.
This is just ONE school district. ONE.

Cases of COVID-19 among students and staff increased threefold across the Killeen Independent School District during the 2021-22 school year.
More than 6,010 positive cases of COVID-19 were reported among students and staff of the Killeen Independent School District during the 2021-22 school year, according to state data.
The year prior, when the district had a virtual option for students and a face mask mandate, Killeen ISD reported about 1,600 COVID cases to the state for the entire 2020-2021 school year, state data shows.
Some may want to believe the pandemic is over, but as many students, educators and health professionals will tell you, the COVID-19 virus is still on the prowl.
Most recently, according to KISD, another 650 positive cases were reported in the month of August alone.
