(34,059 posts)I was so furious when the formal word from the CDC and Fauci was that masks were not helpful. I've been wearing masks since the first week in March in 2020 - there was plenty of reseasrch out there to support encouraging everyone to wear masks. I understand not wanting to give people a false sense of security by promising they would keep us safeuntil definitive research was available - but given the minimal effort it takes to wear a mask, and the potentially significant benefits, there was more than enough data to suggest mask wearing at least as early as March 2020. (And putting out an incorrect assertion that masks were essentially worthless, when the data strongly suggested otherwise, is unconscionable.)
Post-polio syndrome wasn't known for decades - I expect this to be similar, and by then it will be too late for people to take steps to protect themselves from the damage that was done decades earlier when we couldn't be bothered to wear masks.
