(34,373 posts)and got a lot of lake effect snowstorms, I now live in south central lower Michigan and the weather is moderate most of the time. We don't get the scorching heat that those folks west of Lake Michigan get because the lake really moderates the temperature. We're usually 10-15 degrees cooler and really bad storms in Wisconsin tend to lose energy over the cooler lake water. Sometimes a system doesn't care, but they are few and far between. I'm now far enough from the lake to avoid the lake effect snows except if there's a stiff west wind that will bring them this far inland.
We had an earthquake in I think 1986 or 87 and a couple of very minor shakes in the years since, but on the whole, we're pretty lucky here. I looked at a hazard map and it's one of the places that will be spared the worst effects of global warming in the future.
