It does, however, save money for the store.
Every time Im not exaggerating Ive used a self check out lane in these types of stores, something Im buying requires a sales agent to clear the purchase (like alcohol or other over-21 purchases) or the equipment isnt working properly. The result is that lines back up because there are only one or two agents.
Its one of the many reasons Walmart, etc. no longer get our business. My time and sanity (not to mention my ethics) mean more to me than saving money on mediocrity.
Its yet another way the corporations are squeezing the non-oligarch Americans through our money and our time!

No, the register flags the item and an employee has to come override the system after checking.

i used to do that at our local walmart but the wm here closed the lanes down.

I'll give target a big pass ...they announced pay will go from $20 to $24. Pretty darn good

Same with me. I was just buying deodorant and I would have waited 15-20mins to get to a register.
