When Conducting Confirmation Hearings On Future SCOTUS Candidates - Should We Also Include Wives/Spouses..... [View all]

of the prospective candidate and question them as well?

I pose this question after I heard yesterday - the recording of Alito's wife. Her words and tone of her voice just blew me away.

How much of an influence has she been on her husband - a sitting SCOTUS judge?

We now have two examples of wives of judges (Alito's wife and Thomas's wife) that have questionable values regarding issues that may have an impact on the court.

We screen the actual considered candidate to make sure that they can remain - non-political and unbiased when judging cases that impact the court.

However, I don't believe the wives/spouses of prospective candidates are scrutinized.

How much influence is the wife/spouse on the judge?

I think about the fact that married couples - supposedly share everything. How could the judge not take into consideration the beliefs of their wife/spouse?

Then - kind of the follow-up thought that popped into my mind as I pondered this - was - are Alito and Thomas - henpecked? Do they feel that they have to please their wives in order to keep peace in their households?

What's the old saying? "Happy wife - Happy life"

With that I think I'll stop my post here and see what others here on DU think about this. I'm really curious to see the responses that this post will unleash.
