An observation on "FBI says it has not determined a motive for assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump" [View all]

At the end of this AP article, the article's conclusion brings up political violence in the USA [violence which is obviously never justified]:

FBI says it has not determined a motive for assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump

BUTLER, Pa. (AP) —

...

Political violence again shakes America

The perils of campaigning took on a new urgency after the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy in California in 1968, and again in 1972 when Arthur Bremer shot and seriously hurt George Wallace, who was running as an independent on a campaign platform that has sometimes been compared to Trump’s. That led to increased protection of candidates, even as the threats persisted, notably against Jesse Jackson in 1988 and Barack Obama in 2008.

Presidents, particularly after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, have even greater layers of security, and Trump is a rarity as both a former president and a current candidate.

Republican Rep. Mike Kelly, who represents the area where the shooting occurred, attended the rally with his wife and grandchildren and was just behind Trump when he was wounded. Kelly said he was “in a state of bewilderment of how and what has happened to the United States of America.”

“I just wish people — tone it down,” he said. “Quit trying to find, to blame somebody. The blame lies somewhere in the psyche of America.”

Yet, throughout the entire article, January 6, 2021, is not mentioned. Those who stormed the US Capitol at the behest and goading of Donald Trump were not beating the police black and blue so that they could invite Mike Pence and the US Congress out for an ice cream social. The chants were "Hang Mike Pence!" Whether by rope or by bullet and regardless of scale, such attempts are still assassination attempts.

Yet, the AP, at least in this instance, gives Donald Trump (a prime inciter and instigator of political violence himself) a complete pass on his 1/6/21 insurrection. No political violence should ever be practiced in this country, and that includes political violence incited by Donald Trump. The courts need to hold Trump accountable for his insurrection, and the GOP needs collectively to take a look at itself in the mirror, for their brand of political advertising is often merely a lone, armed nutcase away from causing a stochastic terror event. The media, too, needs to attempt to remember 1/6/21, even in light of this recent terrible event. 7/13/24 and 1/6/21 are two of kind, and people need to remember how often Trump himself is the source of dehumanizing rhetoric that benefits him politically and riles up his crowd. An act that he continued on 7/13/24, by rising up, fist raised, for a photo op and yelling "Fight! Fight!" to his MAGA audience.

Additionally, poor Rep. Mike Kelly apparently cannot remember 1/6 either as can be seen from the boldface passages in his statement in the AP article, or he is merely expediently choosing to forget the insurrection as AP seems also to have done.

Lastly, for the sake of completeness and to indicate that Rep. Mike Kelly is far from blameless in the spreading of anti-democratic rhetoric and in the propagation of election denial conspiracy theory:

Pennsylvania officials indulge election delusion at Trump rally

...

U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly of Butler, wearing an American-flag print polo shirt, called the election “the greatest theft in American history.” Jim Bognet, a candidate for the 8th Congressional District near Scranton, claimed that he was personally robbed of victory in 2020 when his 10,000-vote lead evaporated. And Stacy Garrity, the current Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, said of the defeated 45th president, “We know that he won.”

No, we don’t. We know he lost.

It was an embarrassing spectacle at Trump’s rally as these influential leaders groveled to remain in his good graces. But lying about the election is more than that: It nurtures a delusion that threatens the very foundations of the American political system.

Orderly transitions of power are one of the most important — and most challenging — tests of a political system. Many people have believed in democracy until they lost. Disputes about who is rightfully in charge have initiated some of the most destructive conflicts in history. In fact, they are one of the primary causes of the weakening and collapse of great empires, from the ancient world to the modern age.
