any veteran, that is of military age back then, even the youngest, would be in their nineties.

"Modern" is of course a subjective term. Post 19th century? Post World War II? Post Cold War?

In art and literature we've passed through the era of the "post modern."

I'd say Putin is the first Russian leader to earn this distinction since Stalin. Though to quibble some more, Stalin wasn't Russian, he was Georgian.

So then you could say Putin is the first Russian leader to host of foreign army since Nicholas I, Tsar during the Crimean War, fought in the 1850s.

Whatever the case, it still sucks to be Putin.
