(3,222 posts)36. My Dad was a seargent in the Marine Corps.
He was wounded while on board the USS Chicago when it was sunk off Guadalcanal during the Battle of Rennel Island. He volunteered to return to combat and was wounded in the fight for Pelileu.
He was a true hero, a loyal Democrat andan unabashed Liberal. He passed away in 1983 and I miss him everyday. Semper Fi, Dad.
