"There are never really going to be enough gay people in the world to make our votes count enough for any of the people who can change anything. We are too small in number. They don't really need to take us into account for any more reason than a kind of political vanity project. I don;t think the Right;s homophobia is as clearly expressed near the top of its rickety pyramid anywhere near as strongly as it is in the foundations."
I've never heard it put better. Gay people alone do not have the power in a democratic system to protect themselves from a large fraction of the country that discriminates against them. As such, progressives, gay and straight alike, must unite to fight for Gay Rights. It is a civil rights issue, plain and simple. Progressives must always remember the plight of LGBT people, because the other side would let things devolve to where they are in Russia if they had the opportunity.
