It will cause a change in thinking for a percentage but I doubt the lesson learned will be retained.
From personal experience, someone who comes from modest roots and has a very strong ethical base can be deluded, enticed, corrupted by a position of power and wealth. It's so stealthy and incremental that even they don't realize the change.
I would only hope that the lesson learned might last but I doubt it. I think it would be more effective that people in positions of power could not live an isolated life. They need to have a daily personal interaction with people who's lives are affected by decisions made by those with power.
