(55,981 posts)that election. George Bush's brother manipulated the vote count and the SCOTUS overstepped their authority thus violated the Constitution, and yet people want to blame Nader. Nader, who did nothing illegal and was acting within his civic duty trying to provide the American voters an alternative to the Conservatives running for the major parties. Many Americans were fed up with the New DEmocratic Clinton administration and didn't want to continue it via Gore. And remember Gore didn't need Nader's votes to beat Bush legally. Also there is no guarantee that had Nader not run, those that voted for him would have voted for Gore instead of staying home or voting for Bush. There is no guarantee that had they voted for Gore that the election wouldn't have been stolen.
The Conservative DEmocrats want to use Nader as a scapegoat to distract from their own failings.
