2. there was much discussion on this point, i really think it's an overplayed argument

mostly we're talking about democratic senators who were in search of more swing voters in red-leaning states.

trumpeting an improving economy is can be a hard sell when virtually all of that improvement is going to the top 1%, not the swing voters you need to reach.

were a democrat to have touted the improving economy, the republican could counter with the democrat being out of touch, cite numbers all you want but real people here in this state need more, that sort of thing, and you know the media would have a field day.


i like playing armchair quarterback as much as anyone, but the reality is that many of those seats were always going to be a big challenge to hold on to. the flip side is that the senate electoral map for 2016 means we're all going to look like political geniuses, especially if we win the white house as well. we're going to pick up a lot of senate seats!
