Maybe a printed code I can scan with my phone, but the history of any specific product, it's development, point of origin, shipping routes, etc. That should be especially true of anything controversial or less well understood.
At any rate, some people avoid buying GMOs (if they know what they're buying), so just for marketing you should be able to see the product development. I suspect some people think they have a right to know if food comes from a GMO or not. They also want to know if something is "organic" if the definition is established. They also want to know if their chicken was free range! They want to know if their fish was farmed or wild caught. That's why GMOs should be labelled.
I didn't specify any particular type of seed. I think truth in labeling of almost all products makes sense.
I also said that I think the GMO research doesn't have the length of scientific history to absolutely know if some issue will surface over time that is not anticipated today.
