But AG Elliott Richardson refused and resigned, deputy AG William Rucklehaus was fired by Nixon for refusing to fire Cox. The third in line at DOJ was solicitor general Bork -- yup, that Bork. Bork did the deed. It was called the Saturday Night Massacre. The House Judicial Committee convened within the week to discuss articles of impeachment for the first time.

That night NBC anchor John Chancellor called it a Constitutional Crisis and said, "I never thought I would be reporting such events."
