GOP Rep. Steve King Defends Dogfighting
by Scott Keyes - July 31, 2012
If you believe that the United States should legalize dogfighting because we allow humans to fight, fear not. Youve got an ally in the United States Congress.
During a tele-townhall late last week, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) fielded a question about his opposition to animal rights and recently introduced legislation that would undermine local standards preventing animal torture. Its wrong to rate animals above human beings, he told the questioner. To make his point, King argued that theres something wrong for society to make it a federal crime to watch animals fight but its not a federal crime to induce somebody to watch people fighting...
Of course, there is a very good reason we ban dogfighting and other similar forms of cruelty: animals dont have a choice in the matter. Manny Pacquiao chooses to step into the ring. Michael Vicks dogs did not. Similarly, when a human boxer loses a fight, he is not ritually executed after the fight. The same is not always true in dogfighting.
Unfortunately, King is a longtime advocate for legalizing dogfighting, cockfighting, and other forms of animal torture. Most recently, he fought legislation that would make it illegal to bring a child to an animal fight. He has also set aside his love for states rights in order to forbid localities from enacting anti-animal torture standards.

While I understand the paranoia of some farmers on other practices (and understanding is NOT the same as endorsing) he's taken his stance too far. Uncomfortable with the fact he keeps on getting elected, as he is a stain on his state's reputation.
But the last part, where he 'fought legislation that would make it illegal to bring a child to an animal fight' and 'forbid localities from enacting anti-animal torture standards,' shows he is wants to eliminate any moral fabric we have left in this country. Neither of those acts have any redeeming value for Iowa.
His latest poutrage was about immigration, but if employer sanctions were carried out, half the fuss would be over with. His last rant that was filmed and then put online is so dishonest, because he likely gets campaign money from farms who hire iimmigrants at low wages, illegal or not.
Something profoundly wrong with that man. But there are a lot of good people and Democrats in Iowa, it's just that they are overrun.

OP
And although he admits the GOP wouldn't reform immigration laws, it's still Obama's fault.
