4. Just another demonstration that many environmental issues are caused by placing barriers

between the atmosphere and the soil. Flooding, stream degredation, water pollution carried to streams and the oceans in rain runoff - environmental issues never lend themselves to easy answers, but where, the rubber meets the road, land use and the resulting land cover are the bottom line. The atmosphere is a different story, but also very susceptible to rapidly changing land cover.
