6. Isn't sorting by the date of publication enough?

If the title, author and date of publication are the only info given, doesn't the year tell you what order the books were published? That's how I usually sort them anyway.

If you use Calibre for managing ebooks and viewing/converting ebooks - then Calibre does have a sort-by-series-order option. However the user may have to enter the series info him(her)self because it may not be included in the metadata.
