I've never tried it, 'tho I just know my cat would bite anyone who tries it.
She's a rescue & a biter. Pick her up in an awkward way & she'll bite you. Otherwise, she's a nice little girl.
I'd never do that to our old guy, our dog; he needs his beauty rest. 
Am thinking an occasional tickle would be harmless tho.
