Glad to meet you! I actually stayed in Canyon City, near their downtown, right on Hwy 395. I've been there many times, one of my favorite parts of Oregon. I live in Portland, and I usually go out there by Hwy 26 and do the loop back, through Fossil and Condon to I-84 at Biggs and home.

I went to Rome because I wanted to see parts of the country I've never seen and had spent the previous night in Winnemucca. Rome was only 17 miles off my route and I had just found about the Pillars of Rome and wanted to see them. The lady at the cafe/store/motel/gas station/airport told me how to get there, and I did see some of them, but there was a lot more I could see in the distance but I didn't know how to get there and time was becoming a factor. I plan to go there again, though. I might post some photos I took there...when I do I'll let you know!
