Is your hp printer connected wirelessly to your home network wifi? Is your computer also connected wirelessly to your network or via network cable direct to a switch, router or modem?

The reason I ask is that some hp printers also put out their own signal to which you can connect wirelessly point to point. Or you can configure it to connect your home wifi.

Your greyed-out printer icon might have to do with which connection to your printer is represented.
