4. I need to learn more about Mr. Stamets. From the little I've read so far he's brilliant.

Surprised I'm not more familiar with him though I'm sure I've heard and seen his name before.

Thank you for posting.

Nice list of patents in his credit also:

Patents by Inventor Paul Edward Stamets

Integrative fungal solutions for protecting bees and overcoming colony collapse disorder (CCD): methods and compositions
Application number: 20140220150
Abstract: The present invention is based on a plurality of benefits from the extracts of mycelia of individual fungal species, and their mixtures, to provide an armamentarium of defenses from multiple stressors in order to help bees survive and more particularly overcome a complex of symptoms collectively called colony collapse disorder (CCD). The methods and compositions of this designed fungal bioshield helps tilt the balance in favor of bee colony survival, improving the health conditions, disease resistance, pesticide tolerance, pollution tolerance, drought tolerance, pollination abilities, and quality of the honey produced by bees.

Antiviral and antibacterial activity from medicinal mushrooms
Patent number: 8765138
Abstract: Compounds having unique antiviral and antibacterial properties are prepared from medicinal mushroom mycelium, extracts and derivatives. The compositions are derived from Fomitopsis, Piptoporus, Ganoderma, Inonotus, Trametes, Pleurotus, and blends of medicinal mushroom species and are useful in preventing and treating viruses including Poxyiridae and Orthopox viruses, flu viruses including bird flu (H5N1), SARS and Hepatitis C (HCV), as well as infections from Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.

Mycoattractants and mycopesticides
Application number: 20020146394
Abstract: The present invention utilizes the pre-sporulation (preconidial) mycelial stage of entomopathogenic fungi as insect attractants and/or pathogens. The fungus can be cultivated on grain, wood, agricultural wastes or other cellulosic material, attracting the insect and optionally introducing insect-specific pathogenic fungi. More than one fungus and substrate can be used in combination. The matrix of preconidial fungi can optionally be dried, freeze-dried, cooled and/or pelletized and packaged and reactivated for use as an effective insect attractant and/or biopesticide. Attractant extracts of the preconidial entomopathogenic mycelium are disclosed.
Type: Application
Filed: October 1, 2001
Issued: October 10, 2002
