2. Also, about that crate..

Which I would never be without, with a young dog...
Depending on her size, a small crate or big cat carrier, with a towel or something for a soft flooring, is great, because pups usually will not soil it.
So in the am, reach into the crate, grab her lil scruff, slip the leash on, pick her up and deposit her where you want her to pee.
Then say "go potty" when she starts to squat..timing is crucial--when she does, fuss over her, give her a treat, let her sniff around, pick her up and bring her back into the house.
Do same after food, after naps...if she flops down and goes to sleep, put her into the crate so she will wake up there, she wlll want to pee again, so repeat.

You can also do this with a puppy pad if all is quiet and calm enough for her to figure it out. No leash needed if you are willing to put her onto the pad when she wants to wander off.

Most dog catch on very quickly, depending on how easily they accept training..and the age of the pup.
and I train to "potty potty" for the BM's..
Just catch them doing it, say the words, praise after.

The benefit?
On those cold rainy days down here, I use my dog's 25 foot lead, send him into the yard with the command, and I stand nice and dry in the carport.
He does his business and is willing to trot back into the house because that is where he knows a small treat is waiting.
