(4,033 posts)40. I understand.
It is always heartbreaking to lose a beloved pet, it is not only heartbreaking but devastating to lose one with almost no advance warning. I know, I've been there as well. We had a healthy, middle-aged dog who was apparently healthy one day, and gone the next. We were 2000 miles from home for my dad's 90th birthday. I don't remember anything about the drive back home other than a blur and having to pull off the road periodically to break into sobs.
All I can say is I know that Mellow took a piece of your heart with him when he left. I promise you that in time you will discover that he left a piece of his with you when he left as well.

What a beauty! So difficult when you don't have time to work through accepting what must come.
