Arguments from silence are thorny.

For example, rebuking Caesar for not collecting taxes to help the poor. Or even saying that the Pharisees and Sadducees should increase the tithe to help the poor.

And here are are, Syrian protesters, and all Jesus would say is that they're not rendering to Assad what is Assad's. Odd, that.

Then again, he did often quote the Tanakh, so maybe he regarded it as a kind of authority. Not that this could possibly mean anything.
