Most politically interested people I know follow the news reasonably closely. They read a daily newspaper, watch news programming on television, visit websites where news stories are published or discussed, and other wise try to stay informed about what's going on around them.

Here on DU, for example, yesterday's debate has been a common topic. It's been discussed, the time and viewing possibilities explored, and expectations of what the debate would cover talked about almost endlessly. It's been in the newspapers, on TV, and generally mentioned frequently in almost all news outlets.

So, I'm afraid I can't offer any pity. I can, however, offer some advice. Do a news scan on a daily basis at whatever venue appeals to you. There's a lot going on out there that is worth your attention.
