you have to buy a Supplemental policy. For those like me who have no other income than SS (which comes to $1300/month after the monthly cost for Medicare and Part D are subtracted) I buy Plan F which covers the full 20% and pays for the yearly Medicare deductible. This costs me $250/month. It goes up every year. I could never survive if I had to get my own place. Thank God for my kids who fight over me to stay with them.
