With all the Independents flocking to the primaries to vote for Sanders [View all]

Wouldn't it make sense for the Democratic Party to put forth more Sanders-like candidates and support more Sanders-like planks in their platform? Currently 29% of people identify as Democrats to 26% of people identifying as Republicans. It seems the goal of the party would be to increase that 29% by bringing more independents into the fold.
