2016 Postmortem

(21,210 posts)and I say that as a wife whose husband was diagnosed with MDS which progressed to acute myeloid leukemia and who has undergone two allogeneic stem cell transplant since 2010, relapsing on his fourth year check up.
We have lived at Hope Lodge in NYC for over 7 months with well over the same amount of inpatient time and all that entails.
I have been an advocate of a national HC system even before my husband was diagnosed and before our daughter decided to enter med school.
What we have witnessed in speaking with other patients through this process are the challenges they face, from the hospitals and doctors that are in network, to those who need cab fare to get to appointments with a low immune system. Not to mention the challenges of buying food in NYC, and how to procure and transport that food during not so friendly winters. And then rally some energy to cook
We have been living for decades of a shrinking middle class where we vote for the establishment candidates .... while those in need shrink even faster.
I sincerely wish you well, although I doubt the next candidate will have much impact on you or my husband, we are fighting for the next generation/generations and will make the most of our time on this planet.
