(3,089 posts)More blacks moved out of poverty than at any other time and many are still reaping the benefits of good paying jobs with good benefits that afforded them a good retirement. Many people loss their homes during the Bush administration and their jobs too, This didn't happen to them until the Bush years that carried over into the Obama years. You can shout about "bubbles" vulture capitalists and corruption and all the rest. What blacks remember is that under the Clinton administration and improved FEMA helped them put their lives together after catastrophic natural disasters, black farmers were compensated for being left out of the farm subsidies tho white farmers, they could get a good job and job mobility was not a problem, they could send their children to college and get good help from he government. They remember Bill Clinton's cabinet that looked like America and they remember how corporate boards began to open seats to blacks and Latinos. They remember that the Clintons were comfortable in their presence and showed respect and compassion. They remember that the crime bill was a direct response to many of their calls for helping to rid their neighborhoods of crime and black on black deaths from gang and gun violence. Despite the heartbreaking aftermath of the bill, it wasn't intended for the disparate outcomes that resulted. They also remember that neither Clinton was mean-spirited despite the attacks coming to them from the media and the RW haters.
What they remember is that their real hardships began in the early 2000's and after 9/11 their economic and social lives spiraled downward as Affirmative Action and enforcement of non-discrimination in the workplace and in hiring was all but erased from the laws. That's why.
