A president for our time [View all]
We were reading the morning papers - one does this when one is retired - and my spouse fumed, again: I cannot believe that Trump is the president.
And it dawned on me that Trump is the perfect president for our time.
Selfies, social media, fake news, guns in public places, unruly air passengers many with "carry on" that can accommodate a small child..
On CBS this morning, there was a report about safe evacuation from a plane. Passengers are told to leave everything behind but, nooo, someone will always grab their stuff while impeding smooth sliding down the chute.
Everything in your face. Whoever thought, back in 2010, that the idiot who shouted: "You lie" during the Obama's State of the Union would start a trend?
Thus Trump, with his pugnacious behavior, with his twittering, with "breaking all the rules" mirrors society behavior at large.
No wonder most of his voters did not necessarily trust him as a president. All they wanted was to flip the bird at... anyone and everyone. And no wonder that whatever he does and says, even if in direct opposite of his campaign, his voters just shrug. It is still "go get them, go show them." Who are the "they?" Show what? Never mind. Just be as obnoxious as you can be. And they will cheer.
