to get a major Veterans bill passed. First he negotiated with McCain until McCain supported it, and then he negotiated with the Republican controlled House until they did the same.

Also, for the 1995-2007 Republican House, Sanders was the "amendment king", he had more passed amendments than any other member of the House.
