If you read about Marilyn Manson's origins, it was basically the classic Letterman - Leno feud. Both were signed to Trent Reznor's Nothing Records label and they merged with Interscope in the mid 90s. Reznor I think saw what a huge POS Manson was and fought with the executives to get Watts and his band Pig promoted instead. They ultimately lost that fight and the label promoted Manson instead, and that was around the time Mechanical Animals blew up and became a huge hit for the label.

It's pretty interesting. And it's easy to see how Reznor feuded with Manson.
