The "lines are very long" reports may just be intended to discourage voters so one shouldn't really propagate them.

Voter IDs are free and provided by the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation

Complete information on how to obtain the voter ID is available here:
http://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/license-drvs/how-to-apply/id-card.aspx

ID Card for voting phone (608) 266-1069
Fax (608) 267-3812

NOTE: An active (unexpired) driver's license is an acceptable photo ID for voting. If you have one, you are *not* eligible to obtain the free ID (because you don't need it)

Where to get voter ID
You must apply for Voter IDs and, if necessary, a Documentation Verification Petition, at your DMV Customer Service Center http://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/online-srvcs/find-dmv/default.aspx

Requirements
* You must be a US Citizen and at least 18 by next election

* You must provide:

>Proof of name and date of birth, for example, a certified U.S. birth certificate, valid passport or certificate of naturalization. NOTE: If you need to pay fees to obtain proof, you will need to use the Documentation Verification Petition Process and complete a Document Verification Process (DMV Administrator Petition) form MV3012 http://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/license-drvs/how-to-apply/petition-process.aspx
>Proof of identity (usually a document with a signature or photo) and proof of Wisconsin residency.

>Proof of U.S. citizenship, legal permanent resident status, legal conditional resident status or legal temporary visitor status. (See Document Verification Petition Process if fees arise in order to obtain free ID card for voting).

>Your social security number.
