On today's MTP Russert asked Rice if she was "aware of" the CIA concerns about the Niger/uranium story. He showed a graphic describing the fact that Hadley sent her a memo specifically on that subject. Rice didn't say no! She danced pathetically.
Later she said she didn't remember the memo. But that's not the same as saying "No" is it? Looks like she knew.
Now for the $0.59 question. Was Bush aware that the Niger/uranium story was dubious? Some in the press have reported that he was aware. That would make him the ultimate in "read the fine print," slimy, weaselly salesmen.
Why can't someone just ask Bush the question Russert asked of Rice? (I only wish Russert had asked Rice if the president was aware...darn!)
Whoops! Sorry, I intended this for GD. Please move or lock, mods...

1. Was Bush aware? Seriously? |
|
The online Merriam Webster says this:
AWARE implies vigilance in observing or alertness in drawing inferences from what one experiences
I think Rice could have said "no" regardless of whether or not W had been told.
I'm glad the question wasn't posed. We'll never get anywhere if we have to depend on "what did he know and when did he know it?" which may work for most people, but not for the squatter in the Oval Office.

It adds depth to the smirk. |

Bush may not have awareness in the usual sense (or care to), but knowing that he thought something was dubious while he was saying it with certainty?
I do agree with you that he might try to have a certain plausible deniability. But the smirk is not Bush's friend. Ronnie Reagan could look confused and unaware. Bush may actually be confused and unaware. But the smirk says "Maybe I know; maybe I don't. Either way, I don't care."

3. He is guilty whether he knew or not |

If you are going to war, killing thousands of innocent people and costing billions of dollars, shouldn't you read the damn reports yourself? Or just read the newspapers. I read about this in the Guardian before the war started. Wouldn't you think the president could get online and read the newspaper? I guess not this president.
