Spokesman says Huckabee 'simply misspoke' about Obama's childhood
Source: Los Angeles Times

In a radio interview, potential GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said Barack Obama grew up in Kenya with his father and grandfather. A spokesman for the former Arkansas governor says he made a simple mistake.

Reporting from Washington —
Mike Huckabee made a slip of the tongue when saying in an interview that President Obama lived in Kenya, a spokesman for the possible GOP presidential contender said Tuesday.

"Gov. Huckabee simply misspoke when he alluded to President Obama growing up in Kenya. The governor meant to say the president grew up in Indonesia," said J. Hogan Gidley, who works for Huckabee's political action committee.

Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, seemed to be adding fuel to the apparently never-ending brushfire over the president's origins in a Monday interview with a conservative radio host when he suggested that "having grown up in Kenya" Obama would view the British as imperialists.

40. Now we will see if he is actually a Christian.
Of course a real Christian would know that committing false witness is a terrible sin. A real Christian, would repent. That means literally to turn around. A real Christian would give up pride and put truth first. He would confess his sin and never do it again.

A Christian, is a hard thing to be. Reason we actually see so few. A real actual Christian would not put power, pride and profit before truth. Saying he misspoke after going on in that fashion. Compounding lie after lie. Sadly examples like him are the reason why Christianity is getting such a poor reputation. How pitiful an example. Sad really.

28. What are you talking about? Obama lived in Hawaii until he was 6
He did live in Indonesia between the ages of 6 and 10. But that's kind of irrelevant to what's going on here.

The problem is that Huckabee didn't just make a slip of the tongue and say "Kenya" in place of "Indonesia." He went on at some length about how Obama was raised in Kenya by his father and grandfather, absorbed their worldview, and grew to resent the British imperialists who had tortured his grandfather. It was an elaborate and totally bizarre fantasy, and he'd going to have to do better than pleading "misspoke."

be considered to be equal to having "grown up" in Indonesia, or Kenya for that matter.

49. So right! Mau Mau Uprising and the torture by British
Of course all causing Obama to think so differently from average Americans.
This was no slip of the tongue.

His dad was gone by the time he was 2, he never net his paternal grandfather.
Maybe he meant living in Indonesia in part of elementary school with a baby sister and his mom waking him at 5 am to study with her was a form of torture?
That is one slippery tongue. Stupid or lying? We report, you decide.

No, Mike, that does not work. The British were in a few parts of Indonesia around the time of the Napoleonic Wars, but it was a completely Dutch colony from 1824. You meant Kenya, and you know it.

27. Liar
Huckabee is supposedly a minister, isn't he???? Maybe
Huckabee's entire existence is a lie too. There is no way a
person who is breathing can accept the lame explanation that
he "misspoke." He misspeaks alot if he is a
minister and goes around bold face lying about his intentions,
beliefs and then tries to say he "misspoke" about
President Obama's background. He said what he said because he
is looking for votes for the next Presidential election but he
is lying to himself if he thinks he can win.

34. That Is Not Mispeaking
That is deception. Obama's childhood was in Hawaii except for 4 years in Indonesia. Had Huckabee said Obama grew up in Indonesia he would have to had said that Obama would view the Dutch as imperialists, not the British who were imperialists in Kenya. Huckabee needs to stop digging. He said Kenya and meant Kenya, otherwise his statement made no sense.

So it was no mistake or accident or slip of the tongue. Nor was it that he 'simply misspoke'...

“What if (Obama) is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together (his actions)?” Gingrich told the Review, adding that “this is a person who is fundamentally out of touch with how the world works, who happened to have played a wonderful con, as a result of which he is now president.”
