Should We Make Calls to Clinton and to Gore
and ask them to convene a summit of top Democrats together, to help get their act together, and to figure the fuck how to beat Bush?

6. I hope somebody's already called Kerry's camp
Shrub is imploding -- Kerry needs to capitalize on this. (Hint at VP choice and potential Cabinet secretaries to regain momentum.) The Occupant is down -- JFK should start kicking now.

16. I can't share your optimism
Bush* is actually moving UP in the polls. He SHOULD be imploding, but he's not. The public is living up to H.L. Mencken's observation.

Kerry's not really offering a clear alternative vision--especially on Iraq, so he is losing, not Bush*. Kerry's going Bush* Lite and he's going nowhere fast.

8. Sorry to say,
but Clinton and Gore just do not give a sh**!
Think about it! Think about why you have to ask the question?
I think the party is just giving in to this one! Like repugs just let Dole have his fun in '96! Let Kerry have his fun this year and we will get serious in 2008!

12. My reasoning is

just a total lack of interest outside of this board!
Actually, MY observations of no interest. Nothing to back it up. Just socializing with the general public, here in Central Texas, I have no feel for turning out this administration.

Edit: Punctuation

19. Okay, fair enough...
In your day to day routine, do you REALLY feel that this country is ready to throw out this administration? I think the war message has gotten folks into a "let's not change in mid-stream" mode. Look back to history. We are scared! The admin is focusing on attacks before elections; putting in Kerry or anyone else is a lost cause, in my opinion. Perhaps I am not approaching this discussion the right way?

22. hmmm
In your day to day routine, do you REALLY feel that this country is ready to throw out this administration?

Honestly, I feel this country is more ready to throw out this administration than they ever were the previous one.

During the Clinton impeachment farce, his approval never fell below 70%... and was 68% the day he left office.

By contrast, Bush is currently at 48%-51% - depending on the poll.

And Bush's malfeasance is certainly more dire than anything Clinton is perceived to have done.

But to your original question, the answer is "no" if we're assuming "the country" means the voting public as a whole or as a majority. There is a large segment of the right who will never admit to Bush's impeachable offenses no matter how many former and current Bush administration officials point them out.

However, the tide is definitely turning. Each scare tactic Bush employs, each major event he stages and springs on us, amounts to a lesser bounce in his numbers each time.

When his numbers drop to the lower 40s - and I have no doubt they will - THEN the country will be ready to boot him out.

23. That is where I disagree!
I do not see that happening! I do not see the general public ready to change! Polls and approval ratings aside, I just do not see a nation seeking a change at this time. I admit, I do not hang out on this board more than a few times a week. However, I just do not see or feel an overwelming interest in this election by either side.
Just my view...
Thanks for the interchange... I am sleepy. I will check this thread in the morning. Sorry no others hopped in. Thanks wyldwolf and others!

26. well you live in Texas
that may explain why you don't see it happening. I just moved from Texas after living there for 10 years and it would take alot to get the "fundie" thinking someone other than Bush.

However, now that I live in another state, I do see the tide changing. There is a census out there that is sick of Bush and looking for change. At one time the average swing voter measured in the 10% range. Now it's around the 3-4 range. This nation is VERY divided. Step out of Texas and maybe you can see it--that is if you want too.

and there just ain't one there... in my opinion.
Seriously, the DNC is just giving this election year a 'bye!' The party is just not working it and they will not be spending the money! Just watch! I can just see it not coming!

Thanks for the reply...

24. Exactly
Clinton's the most gifted politician of my generation. Al Gore got more votes than any Democrat in history. They both plan to do what they can to insure that Kerry wins.

They will do the right thing, at the right time. There's no compelling reason to try to be first in the polls at this point. The election isn't this week.

I'm tired of all the former Deaniacs running around here bitching about Kerry's campaign. There is NO reason to panic at this point, and it's just tiresome.

30. I Think Bill Clinton Knows How to Win an Election
as does Al Gore. And so does John Kerry.

What do people want? Just today Kerry was all over the news smacking W around. Clark and Edwards have been out there smacking W and firing up the Dems. So have Dean and Lieberman.

The moment Bill Clinton says something, he becomes the story not John Kerry. That is unfortunately the way the media is these days. I'm sure in the coming months both Clinton and Gore will be seen out on the campaign trail.

And both will be featured at the convention. In fact, I'm actually salivating over the prospect of Clinton's speech. I'll bet Bill hands W his rear in a pretty red bow.

But remember John Kerry is the candidate and ultimately he has to campaign and win voters on his merits. I'm sure he will do just fine.

31. Absolutely!
Clinton always asks me for advice. Takes my calls no matter what, or who, he's doing at the time. Couldn't win an election without mew. Told me so himself.

Gore, too. He credits my advice for at least two of the states he won.

We'll get Dean in on a three-way conversation-- there's a man who knows how to take the lead and bring in a huge win.
