Would Wes Clark play a role in a Kerry administration? |
|
I think he would, but in what capacity?
Has there ever been a former general put in as Sec. of Defense?
I think he could also be some kind of special advisor to the president.

1. He has to be out of the military a certain number of years |
|
before he could serve as Defense Sec. I'm sure he will do something. Probably Gephardt and Dean too.

Why do you think it's a dumb law? I wonder if it wasn't put there for some good reason.

I always wanted him as Sec of state but from the rumors floating about that position is being considered for Joe Biden or Richard Holbrook. I have no doubt Clark will play a major role in the Kerry administration.

6. I wish I were as confident as you. |

I don't have good feelings about it at all. I'm not sure if it's Kerry or Clark himself, but I don't feel he will play a big role. Then again, maybe I just don't want to get my hopes up again just to be disappointed.

7. Clark is playing a pretty solid role in the campaign |
|
He helped Kerry sharpen his critique of Iraq. They seem to get along well.

10. Oh, I definitely agree with that and it has been great. |

I have really appreciated Wes' role in the campaign and seeing his influence in some areas. BUT, he just accepted a job last week or the week before. I forgot who it was with. But it made it sound as if he is definitely settling back in to the private sector.

8. Holbrooke is supposed to have the inside track to Sec State. |
|
Kerry has Rand Beers serving as his NSA now; I don't know if Beers would be in line for the real job if Kerry wins.
Other than those two positions, it's tough to see where Clark would fit in. They could recall him to active duty and make him Joint Chiefs Chairman, I think; the guy who is currently serving as Chief of Staff for the Army was recalled from retirement by Bush. I wonder if that wouldn't ruffle feathers in the military though.
Clark sure has been putting in a ton of effort on Kerry's behalf, and he brings a lot to the table. I'd be surprised if there wasn't some role for him somewhere. It's just a question of what. Maybe one of the undersecretary positions in state? Who can say.
Anyway, the election is the thing now. The rest of this is just idle time :-)
