Dose the DU reognize a time zone? |
|
A problem with internet mesage boards such as this one is that they span the globe, and thus, simultanusly span all times zones at once. This becomes a problem with trying to arange or share time cordanates amung the members. When some one posts a time, we must always ask, "time zone is it in."
The problem could be solved by adding a simple clock up at the top of the web page, keyd to a spisific time zone. So I ask the members of the DU. Is this a problem that you have faced before? If so, how would you salve it?

2. This belongs in as the admins. |

But people should try to remember the time zone in theor posts. Have you set your time zone settings in options. That helps your sanity.

But I think it belongs in a spell checker instead.

because the last post I made was tagged with the correct timestamp (from my perspective), even though I'm in the UK.
Clearly the DU code checks the time on your local machine when you load a page, and recalculates all the timestamps accordingly. I hadn't noticed that before. Kudos to the programmer!

6. no - you can set your time zone in your profile |
|
So all timestamps appear in "your" time.

I set mine up to GMT accordingly. That's why all my posts appear to me with the correct local time. The DU code is marginally less funky than I thought!
I always like to feel stoopid. :)

8. This isn't an appropriate topic for this Forum. |
|
Other forums would offer a more appropriate venue, including Ask the Administrators. Topics in the General Discussion Forum are required to have (socio)political relevance. Locking.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, TahitiNut - DU moderator
