I gave my Nokia 6010 an unscheduled hydro-test last night. |
|
Dropped it in the sink.
I thought it was dead for sure, but the healing powers of 'taking the battery out and letting it dry overnight' seem to have restored it.
Close call - can not afford a new phone right now.

1. I lost a phone that way once |
|
Pretty much instantaneously killed it.

So far, no anomalous behavior. Battery seems to hold a charge.
Told this to my Mom last night and she said "Oh yeah, I sent mine through the washing machine once."
Now THAT killed it.

3. Was it off at the time? That may have helped |
|
I would think though, that if it were on, the ongoing charge through the system would immediately short it out.

5. No, it was on the Backgammon game. |
|
I immediately got it out of the water, took it apart and started drying it, shaking the water out, etc. No effect all last night, dead dead dead.
But this morning, I put it together for one last try and viola*! It came on.
* Yes I know it says 'viola', not 'voila' :)

4. Plus Nokia makes a fine product. |
|
I treated my old Nokia like crap and it always took the abuse. (Dropping it on the garage floor finally did it in though.) Now I have a Samsung, and they're fairly tough too. This time, I bought the insurance for free replacement for when I eventually drop this one. ;)

7. I've dropped this thing at least 4 times from the joke holster.. |
|
...which has a velcro closure that doesn't always close. :grr: Still works like a champ. Love the Nokias.
Must get new holster.

6. You should field test it |
|
Like friends of mine did.
Their cell phone fell out of the bass boat.

8. I dropped a Nokia in a pond once |
|
Fished it out, opened it up and let it dry out and the darned thing worked for another two years until I upgraded. It's probably still working somewhere.
I don't, however, recommend anyone try the water test.
