what is your conscience number? |
|
I have never understood how a committed Democrat can be married to a committed Republican. A la Carville / Matlin. It has never made any sense to me.
My wife and I are both die hard democrats, always have been, and probably always will be. So this is not really a problem for us, but it is a confounding concept nonetheless. I certainly didn't choose a political affiliation like choosing whether to have chicken or fish. My political alliances, ties, affiliations, or whatevere are a direct result of the core values that I was raised with ... values that are as much a part of me as, well, as my spouse.
Listening to Al Franken the other day, however, I came up with the perfect idea for mixed marriages of the political type:
The Conscience Number Bed from Perfect Sleeper. The spouse on the left side could dial their perfect conscience number of, say 150, for a good night's sleep ... while the spouse on the right would dial theirs waaaaaaay dowwwwn to , well, to 0, for -- frankly, I don't see how they can sleep at night.
What's your conscience number? ..... because politics makes strange bedfellows .......

although there have been thread where the vast majority in the lounge gave another DUer encouragement to date a Republican. The one girl I wanted to marry was kinda conservative, she did not like either Clinton or JFK, but those were different times. It seems like both Bob Dole and George Sr. had some positives so you could respect somebody who liked them.
But the really funny thing about conscience is that people vote for Bush and then expect him to do something else. There was a poll after the election of 2004 in which a vast majority said basically that Bush should pursue Democratic policies rather than Republican ones. I was like, 'duh, if you wanted that, you shoudn't have voted for him.' So they don't take responsibility for the policies of the people they vote for.
