They're making a movie about Doyle Brunson! |
|
Who's Doyle Brunson? He was once the fastest man in Texas and headed for the NBA until a stack of sheet rock collapsed and ruined his leg. So he turned to poker to support himself and his wife. Back in the days when it wasn't a reputable activity.
How do I know this? Because Jerry Falwell died.
There was a thank-you Larry Flynt thread over on GD in response to Jerry Fartwell's passing. The movie about Larry Flynt was directed by Milos Foreman (Hair, Cuckoos Nest, Amadeus). And now I lean that Milos is directing 'Amarillo Slim.'
I've met two time WSOP winner Doyle Brunson and he is truly one of the nicest people I've ever met. When he and Slim began their poker careers it wasn't exactly the reputable profession that it is today.
It should be an intersting film, especially in the hands of Milos.

1. I feel bad for Slim today. |

Doyle can still hold his own somewhat, but Slim's gotten hammered by the kids every time I've seen him. Today's big guns can calculate pot odds and hand percentages with pinpoint accuracy in a matter of seconds. It's a different world than when Slim picked up the WSOP bracelet back in the 70s. Still, though, you gotta respect the man.
On edit: With regard to the movie, I hear Nick Cage will be playing Slim.
