Going to get "mommied" this weekend |
|
Do you ever outgrow this? :D
We're going to visit Iza's family out in the boonies... they are the sweetest. They don't REALLY understand our vegetarianism, and for some reason they think that we must always be hungry because of it.
"Have you had enough to eat?"
"Are you sure?"
"Here, just have a little more..."
Good thing we don't live too close by, or i'd have to up-size my wardrobe!

1. LOL, enjoy the hospitality |
|
I get the same thing whenever I visit my relatives in South Carolina, because I'm so skinny. "Chile, ain't they feedin' you? Hush up and come get these greens!"
Then they watch me eat and are dumbfounded. "Where does it go?!"

4. Aww, your post reminded me of my granny |
|
in western Kentucky. She and my grandaddy had a no-BS environment. They'd also happily tell you if they thought you'd put on a few.
You must be one of those owners of a hollow leg! :D

9. LOL! My grandma was the same way |
|
To the point where it was an inside joke in the family. We'd call them "Mama Compliments" (everybody called grandma Mama).
Like, if Mama hadn't seen you in a few years, she'd say something like "you ain't as fat as you used to be". That's a Mama Compliment.
I don't know if I have a hollow leg or the world's largest tapeworm. :D

2. My MIL was the opposite |
|
She once put a box of doughnuts down on the table and instructed me not to look at it. Alledgely she was just being supportive of my weight loss efforts. I probably would have done better with someone offering me food!!!

That's not very nice! Was she testing your willpower or something? I probably would have eaten them just to tick her off!

3. My family just has no clue what I can eat. |
|
Mom called me up a while back, on a morning I was driving her in for day surgery. "Hon, Fern* and I need to know if you can eat MIracle Whip, we were going to make you a sandwich for when you get here." "I'm pretty sure there are eggs in Miracle Whip Mom." "Oh, we were going to make you some tuna salad, and I wasn't sure." "Mom? Tuna?"
*Fern is my mom's MIL, the uberMormon who asked me if I think animals have souls a couple of years back over thanksgiving dinner. Only nobody'd warned me about the uberMormon part, so I told her I don't think there's any such thing as a soul. Ooohboy. :scared:

6. WOW, i bet there were some fireworks that Thanksgiving!!! |
|
Our families have also tried to give us things cooked with chicken broth... with the argument that the chicken has been taken out. :wtf:
We've gotten the fish thing too... we like to get dorky about it and tell people we don't eat anything from the Kingdom Animalia... but that usually doesn't help our case. ;)
I think people are frequently confused by people who call themselves vegetarians but eat fish... maybe i should start explaining myself as "a vegetarian who means it"??? :D

10. I wasn't exactly every mother's dream daughter growing up |
|
and my mom and I didn't exactly get along. That said, when my husband almost died this summer, I handled the crisis just fine - until I talked to my mom. It wasn't until I started to talk to her about it that all the emotion and fear came bubbling up and I started crying. If I hadn't stopped her, she would have been here by my side in a heartbeat.
That's just what moms do.

16. He's good now (after a long haul) - thanks |
|
But I really was struck by just how much, even at 44 years old, house, family and all, that when push came to shove man, it all came back to wanting mom to kiss and make it better. There's something special about moms.
