Baked potato experts, a little advice, please. |
|
I love a good baked potato, smothered in chili or broccoli, fakin' bits, or just your basic margarine and salt. But, when I bake just one, well, it seems wasteful to heat up the stove for that long. Have you ever baked two or three (or more) together, eaten one, put the others in the fridge, and nuked 'em later? How'd that work out for ya?
And please don't tell me to bake 'em in the microwave in the first place. It is NOT the same as actually baking 'em!!
Thanks in advance for any assistance.:hi:

I've done that, and it works out OK. Of course, the best way is to eat it directly out of the regular oven...
But the way you describe is OK too...
BTW, my daughter bakes one in the oven for an hour at 400 degrees...I've tried that, and it works too.
Do what you want!

3. I bake mine in the oven for an hour at 350, which is why it seems wasteful to do just one. |
|
Seems more efficient to cook three or four, and save some for later, to re-heat in a less energy intensive way--like microwaving 'em.
If you've done that and it worked out okay, then I will, too! Thanks, Peg! :hi:

2. Do you have a toaster oven? |
|
You can do one in a toaster oven and not heat up the big oven.

4. Hey! I just bought a new one. I had one that my mom gave me |
|
when I moved into my first house, years ago. It died a few months ago, so I started doing things in the big oven. Then, a few weeks ago, I bought a new toaster oven, which I keep forgetting about, because I'd gotten in the habit of using the big one. I should be using it. I'm such a moran! Thanks! :hi:

5. I do alot of "cooking" in my toaster oven when it is hot here |
|
And we will be having another bad heat wave later this week (temperatures in the mid 90s - it is November for God's sake!)

8. if you heat 2 or 3 in the oven |
|
and put the uneaten ones in the fridge, you can also always grate them into hash browns for breakfast. Add some onion, peppers maybe...only takes a few minutes. That's how I make mine!

10. it doesn't have quite the same texture reheated |
|
Must be something about the steamy inside when fresh out of the oven. But it is still perfectly edible and tasty!
I knew a woman who baked a dozen potatoes several times a week for her grown daughters who would take them back to the college dorm for reheating. No complaints.
Enjoy! Some of us can't eat a potato anymore. :-(

14. I'd suggest keeping your clothes on and NOT hanging curtains near the potatoes. |

15. Also can microwave them first then put them in the oven. |
|
It really speeds up the baking time, so you don't waste as much heat--works well with microwave then toaster oven too.
