Holy-Moley....Has anyone seen Shameless? |
|
"Shameless" on Showtime??? Just discovered it.
Amazingly absurd comedy. The writers have got to be on serious drugs. You are entertained in awe that someone made this script up.
Anyone seen it? To me, it's a masterpiece of absurdity and off-beat humor. Enormously entertaining.
One of the story lines:
A husband, who is obsessed with clowns and circus paraphernalia, walks out on his agoraphobic wife (Joan Cusack) who is also obsessed with cooking and rough sex and is replaced by the neighborhood alcoholic freeloader (William Macy). The husband moves back in with them and eats cereal while the wife cooks gourmet meals for the freeloader. The husband advises the freeloader to "Take Advil to stay ahead of the pain" as he waits for the bathroom and the wife selects from her array of sex toys. In the meantime, the over-sexed daughter is give BJ's to her tutor under the dining room table.

1. Looks like a re-make of a British comedy series . . . |
|
Which is now in my Netflix queue, thanks, just my kind of crazy.

I was mistaken, I was only able to watch the first episode myself. And, yes, hilarious, not quite sure why. :hi:

5. Sundance Channel shows the original British version.... |
|
it is a riot. sometimes funny, sometimes pathetic and sometimes even touching. I love the variety of the characters and the shenanigans they get up too.
I don't get Showtime so haven't seen this version yet.

I saw the British version also on DVD. The first episode online seems a lot like it. http://www.sho.com/site/order/preview.do#/Shameless_s01_e01

9. I've been watching it. It's certainly oddly appealing. |
|
I love the Joan Cusack character. And Macy is a typical right-wing hypocrite, railing about "liberals" while he commits disability fraud.
The way those kids manage is amazing, I'd like to believe such a thing were possible. Maybe it is.
Very entertaining.

14. HAHA....Now, if they could only make a creative one to begin |
|
with, we'd be all set. But, instead, US comedies are all stupid canned laughter.

We watched the last three episodes last night and LOVE it! William H Macy is brilliant in his role-- don't miss his right-wing rant/anti-Obamacare monologue in the latest episode. He is playing this role so well it's riveting.
My favorite character is the little girl, Debs--she is also a scene-stealer.

13. At first, I thought his loud drunk slurring would be too obnoxious all |
|
the time - but since he moved in with Joan Cusack - you can really see his brilliance as an actor..his facial expressions and reactions are priceless. I read they were working hard at trying to make him more lovable. At least he is not baseless enough to pounce on Joan's daughter.
I just love dark comedy like this. Think I figure out why - comparing to (to me) stupid shows like 30 Rock (I know, everyone loves it). In a good comedy, people do absurd things and no one reacts to them. And, when someone is funny ...they do react. The typical sitcom is the opposite
Yes, Debs is great -- I loved her police interview. My favorite characters are Joan's husband and Lip (love the droll sarcasm)

his character is full of some fascinating lines. At first I hated him but after the last episode he's quickly growing on me. The dynamic of that blended household is going to make for some interesting twists and turns.
Joan Cusack's character is hilarious--I'll bet there's far more there that they haven't brought out yet as well. And Lip is amazing--he is definitely the father figure in the family.

16. I watched the British version for a while |

Can't bring myself to watch an American remake when I loved the British original so much. Still, glad to know the American version is also good.
