Perhaps saying that "Pelosi sucks!" was too strong |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 11:29 PM by IndianaGreen
On CNN saying how great Kaine was and why Iraq wasn't mentioned.
CNN, Anderson Cooper.
On edit:
I said Pelosi sucks on the aftermath of Kaine's speech, knowing that it was Pelosi and Reid that picked a man that has been governor for only 18 days to deliver the response to the SOTU. A tactical and strategic mistake all around, made worse by a speech that was obviously put together by focus groups.
I wish Kerry or Kennedy had given the response!

Why, exactly, would you expect Pelosi to *not* say that kaine was great?

5. She was pretty rough on him - but focused on what Democrats want to do |
|
We'll get nowhere if all we do is bash Bush - we have to offer an alternative to him.
Bill Clinton used to say that running for office is like a job interview. First you have to convince the employwer that wants to get rid of the guy who has the job. But then you have to convince him to hire YOU to replace him. Otherwise, he'll just keep the other guy until something better comes along.
The Democrats have to be hard on Bush, but that can't be the entire strategy - we have to show the voters why they need to replace him with Democrats. And the only way to do that is to offer our own vision beyond "We hate Bush."

|
Bush dared the Democrats to stop him from breaking the law. How can anyone let that one slide?

Most of these people would have been horrified if Kerry were suggested to give the response. They were also thrilled when a Democrat won governor of Virginia. They don't want to be shoved in the attic like crazy Aunt Lula, but don't understand that the moderate Democrats don't like it either.

3. Just curious. why was Iraq not mentionned? |
|
For kaine, she is one of those who chose him. She is not going to tell us that he did poorly. Who knows, may be he did better for the intended target than he did for us.

6. Maybe because he's a governor and he focused on the domestic |

issues and leaves it up to the Members of Congress to focus on foreign policy.

There are far better choices to give the response, and better speeches.

is a pretty good choice - especially since Granholm's approval numbers are about where Bush's are.
But it's easy to second guess this choice - no matter who they picked, somebody would bitch about it.

He spoke about the troops and the war on terror and how it was it was being poorly executed, specifically mentioned that VA (Petagon) was attacked.

Iraq WAS mentioned. However, there is NOT unity in the party on whether we should have gone in or not. What there IS unity on is the poor management, so that's what was focused on.

15. This bothers me. None of our Democrats "suck". |
|
Some are more irritating and ineffective than others. I am not fond of Kaine because he inserts too much religiosity into office, but I am glad he won. I don't like that he is not fair to the gay community.
I did not hear Pelosi, but I doubt she "sucks."

23. Kaine himself probably doesn't "suck" but his speech, delivery and message |
|
did. He came across as a GOP lite robot! We have so many people who can really speak we should use them. But the DNC and the Leadership wanted the "centrist" message out here. I disagree with it a a vote getter.JMHO>

19. I adore Kerry and Kennedy, but SOTU night is NOT the night to shore |
|
up the base - they're playing to a different audience, and as much as we love our liberal lions, they would be the wrong people to carry the message tonight.
Kaine was a good choice and did a nice job.
