Patrick Fitzgerald Prosecotor - "Big Loans Get Rezko Jailed" Chicago Sun Times
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 01:34 PM by autorank
How often does corproate media mention the birthplace of it's subjects? Here's what they say, "loan from an Iraqi-born billionaire"... "Iraqi born" - WTF does that have to do with anything. Previousl articles on Rezko say "Syrian born." Well why don't they say "Panamanian born candidate John McCain..."? Because they're making a point. There will be more to come from the Poppy Bush-Clinton clan.

Big loan gets Rezko jailed
Update: Rezko to remain in jail; judge won't grant bond. DETAILS TO FOLLOW

Plus Fitzgerald motion to revoke bond
January 29, 2008
BY CHRIS FUSCO, STEVE WARMBIR AND STEVE PATTERSON Staff Reporters

An unreported $3.5 million loan from an Iraqi-born billionaire helped land Tony Rezko in jail Monday -- a week after Rezko's ties to Sen. Barack Obama became an issue in the Democratic presidential campaign.

Calling Rezko "a risk of flight," U.S. District Judge Amy J. St. Eve revoked Rezko's $2 million bail and ordered him jailed at least overnight.

* Oct. 11, 2006: Tony Rezko is indicted on corruption and fraud charges. He remains free, with restrictions, on $2 million bail.

* Monday: Rezko's bail is revoked after he's accused of hiding millions of dollars in assets.

* Today: Rezko will have a court hearing this afternoon, seeking to be released pending trial.

* Feb. 25: Rezko is set to go on trial in the first of the two criminal trials he faces -- the corruption case.

Her ruling came after prosecutors accused Rezko of repeatedly lying about his finances. "The defendant has played a shell game" and "misled the court about what his assets are," Assistant U.S. Attorney Reid J. Schar told St. Eve.

The judge noted that Rezko claimed last January "he has no money and no access to funds." But prosecutors said he subsequently paid $260,000 to a family member who had posted two properties as a condition of Rezko's release on bail. That would eliminate the financial risk the relative might face if Rezko fled and the properties were forfeited. Rezko also had been paying the mortgage on another property that was security against his bail, prosecutors said.

16. "possible balloon going to pop in the Obama camp.." Possible? It is definite!
Possible?

This stuff will slam him in the general election already. It will cost him an awful lot.
Since when has actual PROOF ever stopped Republicans? All they need is a tiny seed and it is a REDWOOD in mere days.

Obama will get hurt bad on the Rezko stuff. His campaign based on hange will be easy to destroy.
The blind do not see it, but it is coming!

5. Correct. See the note I just added at the front of the OP.
In corproate media Rezko is referred to as "Syrian born" and now his money bags financier is referred to as "Iraqi born." It's a cheap tactic based on bigotry.

4. This is the part they're going to really screw Obama with:

the "Iraqi-born Billionaire"...it gets ugly.

Allow me to introduce you to Nadhmi Auchi. He was charged in the 1950s with being an accomplice of Saddam Hussein, when the future tyrant was acquiring his taste for blood. He was investigated in the 1980s for his part in alleged bribes to the fabulously corrupt leaders of post-war Italy. In the 1990s, the Belgium Ambassador to Luxembourg claimed that Auchi's bank held money Saddam and Colonel Gadaffi had stolen from their luckless peoples. In 2002, officers from the Serious Fraud Squad raided the offices of one of Auchi's drug companies as part of an investigation of what is alleged to be the biggest swindle ever of the NHS. With allegations, albeit unproven, like these hanging over him, wouldn't you think that British MPs would have the sense to stay away?

Perhaps you would, but I forgot to add a final fact about Mr Auchi: he is the thirteenth-richest man in Britain, and he has been able to collect British politicians the way other people collect stamps.

9. It does matter, because it will impact the degree to which Obama can fight it.
"I've never even met him" takes a lot of the wind out of that ship's sails.

There are other stories they can use for "guilt by association" but I bet they pound the theme of "Middle East born..." etc. The filthy Fox network won't be alone on this one.

Of course, Obama's campaign can volley back at will, I suspect.

Obama needs to get really specific on issues. That would be a great tactic. I heard his wife on C-Span radio while driving today. She spoke at UCLA. It was all this and that about hope and so forth. She gives a good campaign speech but I don't give a shit about hope or this grand dream. We've spent 7 years in Iraq. There are now 5 million orphans and over a dead civilians in Iraq due to the civil violence caused by the breakdown Bush-Cheney brought on. Those who need "hope" are those who funded that war. Thay better hope there's no final judgment.

I don't think people will fall for this crap. But his best response is to get specific now (like he cares what I think;)

10. There are plenty of spurious accusations to go around.
I am content knowing no wrongdoing has been attributed to Obama. :hi:

Clinton co-chair took checks from Rezko
Donations from 2001 and 2003 called long before any issues became public

LOS ANGELES - Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, a national co-chair of Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign, banked at least $7,500 in political donations linked to an indicted Chicago businessman whose past connections to Barack Obama have been used by Clinton to criticize her rival.

City records show Antoin Rezko, idenfitied as chairman of Rezmar Corp. of Chicago, contributed $1,000 to Villaraigosa's mayoral campaign in May 2001. Those records show Rezko also donated $500 to another Villaraigosa political committee in March 2003.

Records show Villaraigosa received at least another $6,000 from people or businesses with connections to Rezko.

From SmirkingChimp: Since the name of Chicago defendant Antoin ‘Tony’ Rezko has come up in national debate, it seems fair to look at donations from other defendants in Chicago’s “Operation Board Games.” Of the other five defendants, three have donated to the Clintons or to Clinton supporters, three have donated mostly to Republicans, and at least two have donated to Obama’s political opponents. None have donated to Obama.

13. In the Clinton article Rezko is no longer "Syrian born businessman Rezko"
Nobody in LA will care about vilaraigosa's money source.

There's a theme - "(fill in blank with Middle Eastern country) born (fill in) (Name), who says he taught Obama everything he learned."

I didn't notice the hate speech until this article. It's the theme of their tear down.

btw, HRC blew it with the odious Chris Wallace in an interview yesterday. He asked her "Why do you want to declare defeat in Iraq." She didn't slam him, just answered. As I recall, Bill Clinton really knocked this guy around not too long ago. Why can't she. Time for the Fox "smack down."
