Austin's local CBS affiliate KEYE-TV replacing RTV with Telemundo |
|
As a person that gets his television from rabbit ears due to economic reasons, this really sucks. I means one less choice for television entertainment. I don't speak Spanish, so this means that I'm limited to only the three networks plus Fox, CW and PBS. However with this unwelcome news, I'm going to boycott KEYE, even the English half of it. There are plenty of Spanish-speaking stations in Austin, including 24-2, which until recently used to be the local Weather station. Why do they have to take away a channel from us to satisfy the viewers that speak Spanish? Couldn't they just add a third channel for them instead of screwing those of us that speak English? I sent KEYE an email announcing my boycott. Why watch a channel if I can't understand what they're saying?
I guess I'll be watching a lot more Fox instead.

1. I looked up the story and the best I can tell |
|
They are adding a channel (42.2) and not replacing Channel 42.
I could be wrong, as the story I read in the Statesman wasn't very detailed.

2. There already is a 42.2 -it is the Retro TV network |
|
It shows reruns of great old TV shows, a la TV Land. They are dropping Retro TV and replacing it with Telemundo. That really sucks. RTV is a great channel and now KEYE is screwing loyal viewers to replace it with crappy telenovelas with non-existent production values, variety show featuring musicians singing the praises of narcos and soccer.
Some choice.
I guess they feel that their English-speaking viewers should just fuck off. So in that spirit, I'm boycotting both KEYE channels since they don't give a shit about their viewers.

I didn't know about Retro-tv and had no idea what the RTV in your OP stood for.

4. It's a terrific channel |

I can watch great old TV shows there, compared to the dreck that passes for network TV these days. Besides the cartoon shows on Fox (Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad) there is absolutely jack-shit on network television worth watching.

5. Maybe you should just look at this as an opportunity to become bilingual |

6. Noble idea, but I'm too old to become bilingual |
|
My spanish extends to only the basics (food/drink/hello/goodbye/thank you). I don't speak good enough to understand what they're saying (spoken way too fast for me to process)and I'm very reluctant to use spanish or any other foreign language in real life if I'm not at least semi-fluent. There is nothing more embarrassing than saying something and not being able to understand the response. I'm just not into looking stupid in front of other people by not knowing the language, so I just don't speak it. If nobody spoke english then I would probably be forced to learn, but that's not the case. I'm sure it sounds silly to you, but there it is.
I guess watching less TV is a good thing.

7. Watching less TV Is a good thing! |

I do the rabbit ear thing, too. I refuse to have cable and sometimes I take the rabbit ears off so the only thing my kids can see are movies we rent. I find they behave much better when this is the case. I personally have given up TV almost entirely. I just read books and am much happier that way. I see TV sometimes when I go to the gym. I am astounded at the crap that comes up visually on the monitors. Total right wing propaganda. :puke:

9. TV has jumped the shark |
|
I'm reminded of an old star trek episode, where they defrost a guy from the 20th century. He asks to see a TV but is told that TV didn't last much past the year 2040.
We should all work to insure that TV actually doesn't last much past the year 2010. :-) :-)
I don't have a TV and am much happier for it.
