I've been thinking, now, for over a month, that I've seen the movie |
Serious Man. I have read many of the critics review of the movie and they all give the film high marks. Am I missing something? I consider myself a pretty good, and fair, critic of films, but this one has me baffled. I thought it was a waste of my time, not to mention the 18 bucks for admission. The first 15 minutes of the movie I walked out to see if we were in the right theater...really!
Your opinions, please

2. People have told me you have to be Jewish to understand a lot of it |
Although I haven't seen it myself, people who I know who have gone said I should go see it and tell them what it means (since I'm Jewish) :)

No such animal. Movies are a strictly subjective experience.

11. I did not offer an opinion of you, I offered an opinion on the nature of movies, and human viewers. |
If I claimed, "All people are a bit smelly," or "the universe is awesome," I would not really be talking about you, I would be talking about a subject which included you.
Though if I did give an opinion of you, I would have been in the right to do so since you brought up the subject of yourself. If you don't want people to mention you, don't introduce that particular topic into the thread.

15. I don't understand what you are talking about. Perhaps if you could offer a concrete example, |
I could decipher your replies.

6. Oh wow. I laughed all the way through, except at the very last scene (which I won't spoil here). |
My hubby's a NY Jewish guy, so, yes, that probably helped. I definitely saw a bit of my in-laws in many of the characters. I laughed out loud lots of times. I think everybody in the theatre was laughing, too, but I could be wrong. There is one tiny tidbit at the end of the credits that was a real howler to the handful of us who stayed to the very end. Funny how people view things differently. There are some very popular movies I can't stand, including most chick flicks.

16. I'm interested in seeing it, because it takes place in the 1960s |
(my teen years) in St. Louis Park, which in the first half of the twentieth century was one of the few suburbs of Minneapolis where Jews were allowed to buy property.
So I'm interested in spotting locations, as well as the acquaintances who worked as extras. They told me that they had to dress early 1960s style from the skin out, including the underwear and foundation garments.
