Expectant Mom of 18 Michelle Duggar Airlifted to Hospital

Source: Entertainment Tonight

Mom of 18 -- with No. 19 on the way -- Michelle Duggar was airlifted to a Little Rock, Arkansas hospital over the weekend.

Michelle, who is expecting her 19th baby with husband Jim Bob in March, was airlifted from one Arksansas hospital to another after she experienced gallbladder issues, according to People magazine.

A rep for TLC, which airs "18 Kids and Counting," released a statement to People, which reads, "This weekend, Michelle Duggar was admitted to an Arkansas hospital due to gallbladder issues. The pain from a gallstone was generating some contractions. Just to be safe, she was airlifted to a Little Rock, Ark., hospital, so that in the unlikely event that she had to be delivered early, she would be close to a NICU center. Though there were some fears that the baby was in trouble initially, it soon was discovered to be solely the gallstone causing the discomfort. Michelle is resting comfortably, and the baby is doing fine."

1. edit: Thank you for removing the mean comment.

No matter how much we may disagree with Mrs. Duggar's personal decisions there's no reason to wish her or her baby ill health.

4. Agreed. It was like shooting to my foot comment.
I'm sorry I said that. I wish Michelle the best, really. I'm just reminded of my oldest cousin who is 38 and is expecting her first baby girl anytime this week. She recently was hospitalized with preeclampsia, which was a scary moment for all of our family involved (my mom's is my cousin's aunt - her mother died of ovarian cancer in 2002 - so Lori's really close with her)

14. Thanks for manning up, I didn't see what you said, but that means you corrected it quickly.
I have an idea what it was, and no doubt others will make similar statements, but yeah.

2. What a mean, nasty thing to say!!
What a horrible person you must be. Shame on you! Be careful that the Karma doesn't bite you in your ass for wishing something like this on this family! What have they ever done to you?

5. This is what it is about..........
Extreme Motherhood
Understanding Quiverfull, the antifeminist, conservative Christian movement that motivates popular reality-TV families like the Duggars.

6. I sincerely hope the hospitalization and meds help her carry the pregnancy to term...
Depending on when she is due in March, that would put her between 23-27 weeks so a delivery now would result in a very dangerously premature baby. Having a micro-preemie is a very harrowing experience. My former one pounder 24 weeker is profoundly disabled from his premature birth and I wouldn't wish what we've gone through with him on anyone, no matter how I might feel about their family choices.

And yes, I do have personal issues with the large size of the Duggar family. I think this incident shows that it's time to close the baby-making factory, if only to protect Mrs. Duggar's overall health from here on in. She's got a lot to live for...

9. Fun math issue
Edited on Tue Dec-08-09 02:23 AM by lapfog_1
taking into account her two sets of twins and one miscarriage, Michelle Duggar has been pregnant for about 62 percent of the time from 1987 (the year she first became pregnant) to the present.

I don't think the human body is really ready for that, but I'm astounded by the fact.

Never mind the hard work of taking care of 18 children in succession. Diapers, feedings, sniffles, arguments, cooking, laundry, house cleaning... all while pregnant for most of the time for the last 22 years.

10. The math is frightening....
Michelle Duggar seems to be one of the sweetest people on the planet and I hope she and the baby are well. Michelle herself said having the first five kids was the toughest, but after that the first five were old enough to help with the next five, and so on. So to raise that large a family, some of the older kids lose out on some of their childhood. There's no other way around it.

16. The older girls get pressed into service early on & end up with a very short childhood of their own
I don't know about the Duggars, but typically the division of labor is girls = inside chores and boys = outside chores. No human mother can take care of a litter that big, so unless a couple has a full-time staff of nannies, the daughters of the family are pressed into service. The hugest burden is the childcare and household tasks -- laundry, cooking, and the thousand other jobs 24/7/365.

I have a friend who was #5 of 17, and believe me, her childhood was no fairy tale.

11. Never mind selfishly propagating
without any thought to the overpopulation issues of starvation and destruction of the planet in trying to keep up with the rugrats thoughtlessly generated by people like these. I wish no harm on her or hers or anyone but I wish these Duggars would show some regard for someone other than themselves and their egos.

you only have to have seem something of the Jon + Kate situation to understand

that TLC exploited them until there was nothing left ---

Good thing they didn't have a funeral service company sponsoring the show --

Everything else that could be bought or sold on the show happened there, however.

Kate recently said that when the babies were born they couldn't pay their bills so

much of this is understandable --

but TLC and its behavior isn't!!

13. Mother? Only in the technical sense.
Mother? Defined as the person who has time to look at your face and take enough personal interest in you to ask questions and look at the schoolwork that you brought home that day and tell you how proud they are of you, occasionally bake your favorite cookies, give you a hug when you walk past because they love you? No.

15. I have a real problem with parents who have so many kids
And expect their older children to bear the burdens presented by the younger ones. I think it borders on child abuse.

22. It definitely is child abuse to have the older kids caring
for the younger kids...an occasional helping out is fine, but you know after about 6 or 7 kids the older ones are doing way more to help the parents than they should be doing....what a life...I really feel for the older kids having to take care of the younger ones....I'd probably run away at 16 if I had to take care of that many siblings....I was the oldest of 5 and that was plenty hard enough thank you!

23. Because of her religious mania, she is terrified NOT to have kids

IIRC, she thinks God punished her for using birth control, by causing her to have a miscarriage with her first pregnancy. So she doesn't use it, and the hubby gets frisky, and etc. etc.

Thank the stars this 19th baby didnt die, but what if it had? Wonder what she would've thought then.
